Two practices and a game. That is all that is left of training camp. It has gone by fast, now that I look back on it. Everyone is excited to get to play against another team tomorrow. It will be our first test and we will be able to see some results from our hard work and also figure out the numerous things we still need to work on. But either way it will be fun. The other major thing around here is the addition of Steffen Hamann. He arrived a couple of days ago and is getting into the swing of things. We sat and talked a little the other day about his trip to the Olympics and about a couple of mutual friends.

For now, it's off to practice and preparing for the game tomorrow.
Eicke took some more pictures. You can find them in this gallery >>

Bis dann,
Adam

The countdown is on

25.8.2008
Well, the festival is over and the town is now quiet again. On Saturday it actually started raining very hard, soon after I wrote my entry, which put a damper on the party. Most of the activities were scheduled for outside so I don't know what they did. Sunday however turned out to be a beautiful day and the people were everywhere enjoying the weather. There was live music and a pig roast behind our hotel. With the end of the festival, things are back to the way they were for the first two weeks of training camp: slower moving, relaxed and beautiful weather.

The countdown is on... looking forward to being back in Berlin.

Bis dann,
Adam

News from Kranjska Gora

23.8.2008
With almost two weeks down, camp seems to be flying by now.

The new news around here is, that there is a weekend sports and party festival. With a beach volleyball and street basketball tournament going on along with music and other vendors all over the place. It seems as if the town's population has doubled over night. It will be interesting to walk around today between practices, just to see what it's all about.

Right now it's 10 am in the morning and it sounds like a carnival outside. People yelling on the loud speakers and whistles and music playing all over town. Sounds like a party. I will check it out and let you know what it's all about.

Bis dann,
Adam

I hope you enjoyed the pictures. I had a good day off, just walking around and taking in the sites of Kranjska Gora.

We are now more then half way finished with training camp and I think everyone is starting to get a little anxious to go back to Berlin and their families. Don't get me wrong, the country here is absolutely beautiful but there is just something about Berlin. I was only there for a week before coming to Slovenia and i can already see it. Sorry that there is not more to report these last couple of days but the things at this point are pretty repetitive. I promise some other interesting stories soon.

Bis dann,
Adam

Day 7

17.8.2008
ski slope in Granjska Gora
Hello again from Kranjska Gora. We had been passing our time with watching the Olympics and still trying to understand how one human being could swim to eight gold medals (Michael Phelps) in one Olympics. I can't even comprehend the feeling of being on the podium once and having your national anthem played, it must be unbelievable.

The other athlete that we as a team have been talking about during meals and practices is the 100 meter gold medalist Usain Bolt. Non of us can believe the speed that man has. Usually the conversation goes something like: "did you see that guy", "man, he didn't even run the full 100", "that guys is fast, wow". What else can you say.

I am going to try to put together a picture entry for tomorrow, if the weather is nice, so stay tuned. Found out that my family and friends found my dairy on the website so I would like to just say hey, and miss you guys. Wouldn't be here without you. Lots of love, alot alot.

Off to practice. Bis dann.

Training camp progresses

15.8.2008
I woke up with morning to rain, which is never fun, but for some reason the mountains still retained their beauty. As the training camp progresses, it is always a little hard to get out of bed every morning. But knowing that i am not going at it alone, makes it easier.

I am starting to get to know my teammates better as the days go by and i think, that this year is going to be a lot of fun. We all know when its time to be serious, but then we can also keep it light when the time is right.

Morning of day three

13.8.2008
A little tired this morning and taking a little longer to wake up. With the help of caffeine i am ready to go. Tomorrow we have a day off, so the biggest challenge today is to stay focused through the fatigue and pain. I have found that the best way to do this, is to just focus on getting better. So today that is exactly what i will do.

One of the best ways of passing the time between, is watching the Olympics. This morning i was just watching the cycling time trials. I am really looking forward to watching some track-and-field which start on friday, and the basketball. Hoping that the USA won't underestimate the field this year. They showed the USA-China game on TV and i think they looked pretty good. But tomorrow will be the first real test.

Off to get better. Until next time.

Trainingcamp

11.8.2008
Waking up to a beautiful morning, I still couldn't believe how beautiful Kranjska Gora is (see picture from behind the hotel). The food is good and the team all seems ready to get back into the swing of things. Don't get me wrong, training camp is no easy task. It will be grueling trying to recondition the body to the two hours practice two times a day, but we all know that that is, what it will take to get to were we want to be.

It seems that you plan your day around eating, practice and sleeping, and not much else. It is about all the mind and body can handle at this point, and knowing that we still have threee weeks to go, is something you try to put out of your mind.

Now that day one is over, you just try to take stock of your body, what hurts and what you think you might need treatment on. Today was a good day, no injuries just a little sore. Time to lay down for the rest of the night and watch some Olympics and a movie.

Till tomorrow
Adam
