Am Sportinternat Urspring früh als großes Talent erkannt, durchlief Lucca Staiger alle Jugend-Auswahl­teams. Sein 2007 vollzogener Wechsel an das US-College Iowa State verlief­ jedoch holprig: Zunächst sperrte ihn die NCAA für ein Jahr, weil sie seine Einsätze in der deutschen 2. Liga als von den Statuten untersagtes Profi-Engagement wertete.­ Endlich spielberechtigt, war der Guard in Iowa State nicht mit der ihm dort zugeteilten Rolle im Team zufrieden und entschloss sich deshalb, schon im Februar 2010 vorzeitig nach Deutschland zurückzukehren, wo der 56-fache Nationalspieler jetzt in der dritten Saison das Trikot von ALBA BERLIN trägt. Ausgestattet mit einem gefährlichen Wurf aus der Distanz, viel Spielübersicht und gutem Ballhandling, will Lucca in dieser Saison den nächsten Schritt in seiner Entwicklung machen.

Already recognized as a promising talent while attending the Urspring Boarding School for Sports, Lucca Staiger was a member of all youth selection teams. But his start at the University of Iowa State in the US was a bit rocky: the NCAA barred him from playing his first season there because they considered his time played in the second German league as professional involve­ment with a club, which is against NCAA rules. When he was allowed to play again, he was unhappy with the role he was given in the team and left in February,­ 2010 to return to Germany, where the 56 game-experienced National Team player is now entering his third season with ALBA BERLIN. Equipped with a dangerous outside shot, game savvy and good ballhandling, Lucca is ready to make the next step in his development this season in Berlin.
