Zum Abschluss ihres Spielemarathons mit sieben Spielen in 15 Tagen haben die Albatrosse am Donnerstagabend in der Mercedes-Benz Arena nochmal alle Reserven mobilisiert und sich ihren vierten EuroLeague-Sieg erkämpft. Obwohl es unter dem Korb mit drei fehlenden Innenspielern und fünf Fouls von Landry Nnoko extrem dünn wurde, besiegte ALBA das litauische Vorzeigeteam und vor der Partie punktgleiche Zalgiris Kaunas in einem sehr intensiven und spannenden Match mit 69:62. 900 litauische Fans sorgten gemeinsam mit den ALBA-Fans für eine lautstarke und mitreißende Atomsphäre.
Im ersten Viertel erwischte Coach Aito Zalgiris mit seiner in der EuroLeague immer wieder eingestreuten Box-and-one-Verteidigung auf dem falschen Fuß. Offensiv fanden die Gäste überhaupt keinen Rhythmus, was sie aber nicht davon abhielt, stark zu verteidigen, was eh ihre große Stärke ist. So konnte sich ALBA zwar etwas absetzen, aber nicht weit genug. Als Landry Nnoko im dritten Viertel mit vier Fouls auf die Bank musste, nutze Kaunas die Gunst der Stunde, attackierte immer wieder den Korb und ging mit vielen Freiwürfen in Führung. Aber nach dieser etwas desolaten Phase mobilisierten die Albatrosse mit Luke Sikma auf der Fünf und Niels Giffey auf der Vier nochmal alle Kräfte und bogen das Spiel wieder um. In der Schlussphase versenkten die Berliner dann die Big Shots, während Zalgiris seine Chancen ungenutzt ließ.

In the month of November so far we played eleven games and had three flights, four times travel, only for videos sessions, five days off and only three practices. I am very happy about the wins in this situation – not only with the many games, but also with several injuries. Today we played good defense in the first half, but no good offense. However in the second half our offense was much better and in the last quarter we also played great defense. In the current situation we can’t play like that for 40 minutes, but we will try in the future.”
